Legalise boxing!

The Progress Party has proposed to legalise professional boxing and change the existing rules for amateur boxing in Norway. Last week, Boxing World Champion Cecilia Brækhus, participated in a Parliamentary hearing about the proposal.

Norway is one of few countries in the world where professional boxing is illegal. Yet, one of the best female boxers in the world, Cecilia Brækhus, is a Norwegian.

“I resent that one of our best athletes is considered a criminal in her own country”, says Øyvind Korsberg, Spokesperson on Sport for the Progress Party.

“Boxing has become much safer over the last few years and the athletes are closely monitored by medical experts before, during and after a match. There are risks involved in any sports and boxing shouldn’t be singled out and banned”, says Korsberg.
