Norwegian butter parody

Norwegian supermarkets have run out of butter and last week, people queued up on high street in Oslo to get their hands on free butter handed out by generous Danes.

“The so-called butter-crisis is a result of misguided agricultural policy alone”, says Torgeir Trældal, Spokesperson on Agricultural Affairs for the Progress Party.

“The tariffs on beef and dairy products are so high that there is no interest in importing these goods to Norway, which has lead to one or two Norwegian distributors controlling the market alone. It’s a disgrace and it is embarrassing. The last time we received free food supplies from our neighbouring countries was during the Second World War”, says Trældal.

Unfortunately, it seems the Government has not learned anything from the butter shortage. Last week, a White Paper on agriculture was presented by the Government and the message was load and clear; “business as usual”.

“Ironically, there are only two places in Europe where you will find people queuing up for food. The first is in Norway, due to a misguided agricultural policy. And the second is in Swedish border-towns, where Norwegians, who are fed up with expensive products, are queuing up for Swedish products”, says Trældal.
