Visit from the Danish Liberal Party
One of the main attractions at this weekend's conference in the town of Tønsberg, was a visit from the political affairs spokesperson for the Danish Liberal Party, Mrs. Inger Støjberg.
With her party having governed Denmark since 2001, Støjberg told the enthusiastic Progress Party audience about how they have worked to modernised the country after years of social-democratic rule.
Since 2001, the Danish liberal-conservative government has implemented reforms in areas such as tax, immigration, justice and public services.
The Danish Liberal Party promised not to increase taxes if they were elected and they have kept their promise; since 2001 taxes have not increased.
In order to deal with integration challenges, the government imposed new rules on family reunification. The results are very positive. Before the new rules were implemented, 2/3 of young Danes with a non-Western background married people from their parents’ country. Today, the opposite is happening; 2/3 of Danes with non-Western background marry Danes.
For decades, the Progress Party has proposed more choice and competition in public services. In Denmark, this is a reality.
"The Progress Party and I are very impressed with what the Danish Liberal Party has accomplished", said Siv Jensen. "We are very honoured to have Inger Støjberg at our conference".
“I am very excited to attend and speak at this conference,” said Inger Støjberg. “The Progress party and the Danish Liberal Party are two of the big Nordic liberal parties and I have enjoyed following the development of the Progress Party over the last few years”.
